Upcoming Open & Affirming Events
On July 21 the ONA Committee will host an after-church conversation with the Rev. Dr. Joe McGowan, who served as the Open and Affirming Coordinator for our UCC Conference for several years. Rev. McGowan will talk about his experiences helping other congregations through ONA, and provide us with insights about our own process. This is the time to come with your questions about “what, why, how ONA.”
On August 18 we’ll have a panel discussion about nonbinary and transgender issues and concerns. Our panelists will include Jay and Christi Dysart, as parents of a nonbinary child, and Julie Kay Satriano, as an educator and community advocate. This is the time to come with all of your questions about pronouns and any other matter related to transgender.
The ONA Committee strongly encourages you to attend and participate in these events. This is a truly important moment in the life of this congregation. We hope that you will talk about the ONA process with your pew-mates and at coffee hour, inviting everyone to come to the events take part in the conversation. No matter if you’re sure that you’ll vote yes or no, we need your voice and your thoughts to help guide us all on this journey that we’re taking together.
